Discover engaging opportunities to explore seasonal recreational activities, learn about the historical connections to winter in the Kennebec region, develop new skills, and embrace the joy of the season. With interactive experiences for all ages, this celebration invites everyone to uncover new hobbies and enjoy the beauty of winter.

Winterfest is FREE for everyone to attend. Please note that some activities may require a fee to participate and/or advance registration.

Create your own 21” expedition pack basketWhether you’re planning a backcountry trek, a day of foraging, or simply want a functional and stylish pack for everyday use, this class is for you.

Bring your own equipment or enjoy complimentary use of ours (on a first-come, first-served basis) and explore the snowy (hopefully) trails of the Arboretum.

Bring your own, or borrow one from our visitor center, and head out to one of our great sledding hills!

Join Shalimar of Kennebec Valley Community Arts Maine in creating a Mandala on snow!

Winter Bird Chat

Gather at the bird feeder window to observe the winter birds of the Arboretum. Enjoy casual conversation with staff and other attendees about bird identification, tips and techniques for spotting local species, and useful apps and resources. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned birdwatcher, all experience levels are welcome!
