Viles Arboretum Begins Transition to Renewable Energy

Viles Arboretum Begins Transition to Renewable Energy

Augusta, Maine- Viles Arboretum, driven by its Alternative Energy Committee, has recently joined Powermarket, an innovative renewable energy platform, in its efforts to transition to sustainable and clean energy. As part of this initiative, Viles Arboretum will purchase 85% or more of its electricity from a local solar farm in Otisfield, ME.

This move is a significant step forward for the Arboretum in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the fight against climate change. By choosing to purchase renewable energy, Viles Arboretum is supporting the local economy while reducing its environmental impact.

According to Executive Director, Ryan Martin, "Our commitment to environmental sustainability is at the core of our mission and values, and we are excited to take this next step towards a cleaner future. The work of our Alternative Energy Committee has been instrumental in driving this initiative forward, and we are proud to be partnering with Powermarket to support renewable energy initiatives in our community. We anticipate taking further steps toward reducing our dependence on fossil fuels."

In addition to its commitment to sustainable energy, Viles Arboretum also supports environmental sustainability through its land stewardship and programmatic efforts. With over 220 acres and six miles of hiking trails, the Arboretum provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore nature in the heart of Augusta, Maine. Its botanical collections feature native and non-native plants of statewide importance, and the Arboretum offers a variety of educational programs and workshops to promote environmental awareness and conservation.

Powermarket is a leading renewable energy platform that enables communities and organizations to purchase clean energy from local solar farms. Through this partnership, Viles Arboretum is joining a growing network of organizations that are committed to reducing their carbon footprint and contributing to a sustainable future.

With this move, Viles Arboretum is setting an example for other organizations to follow. By investing in renewable energy and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels, Viles Arboretum is demonstrating that it is possible to reduce our organizations environmental impact, while still achieving its mission and goals.
